Congressman James McGovern one year after the attack on the Capitol
Massachusetts Congressman James McGovern joined the Talk of the Commonwealth with Hank Stolz on Jan. 6th, the one year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol, to give his first hand account of what happened and where we are as a nation. McGovern spoke about working with Republicans going forward and his concerns with restrictive voting laws to enforce the will of the minority. He said some who serve in Congress seem to see Democracy as an inconvenience and that the attempted coup is ongoing.
Congressman McGovern was first elected to the House in 1996. He is the chair of the rules committee and was the last person to leave the house chamber on January 6th, 2021. As he left the chamber he was within ten feet of the mob. Close enough to make eye contact with those who wanted to harm him.
