Rosen-“I hope the goal of everyone is to return to normalcy.”

Feb 9, 2022

By a 3-2 vote the Worcester Board of Health voted to lift the mask mandate on public buildings starting Friday February 18th.

Gary Rosen voted in favor of lifting the mandate and said he would have liked to see it lifted immediately or at least  for Feb. 14th Valentine’s Day.  “I hope the goal of everyone is to return to normalcy.” Rosen said. The motion to lift the ban was proposed and supported by City Manager Ed Augustus and Dr. Michael Hirsh. Masks will still need to be worn on city buses and the statewide mask mandate for Public Schools remains in effect.

The Worcester Board of Health may act on the mask mandate for Worcester Public Schools at its March meeting.  Covid cases have been dropping in the city and state.  Dr. Hirsh feels Omicron has probably peaked but feels the 18th is the right date to lift the mandate to be sure.
